Steady Progress at Washburn & Doughty

January 9, 2009 – Six months after a fire destroyed Washburn & Doughty’s main construction building, the company is beginning the year with steady progress on the new building. Sheridan Construction began hanging siding on the East Bay this week and by Friday the east wall was about 50% complete. A summary of progress on the East Bay is as follows:

• The concrete floor has been poured, with grounding straps in critical areas.
• Vertical columns are erected.
• The roof is complete.
• (2) Twenty-Ton Cranes have been installed.

By the end of the first day of erecting steel, Sheridan Construction had erected eight columns for Washburn & Doughty's new building.

On Monday, November 17, 2008, Sheridan Construction of Fairfield, Maine began erecting steel for Washburn & Doughty’s new fabrication building.

The building will measure 225’ x 155’ and is designed with two construction bays, each equipped with two, twenty-ton cranes. A central, two level mezzanine will contain shop space and offices for production support. This 42,000 sq. ft. facility is designed for vessels up to 200’ long by 50’ wide.

Completion of the East Bay is scheduled for the first quarter 2009.

Shipyard Update - October 11, 2008

October 11, 2008, marks three months since a fire destroyed Washburn & Doughty’s building and the yard is pleased to announce that progress on clean-up and construction is moving steadily ahead.

The Sheridan Corporation of Fairfield, Maine was awarded the contract to construct Washburn & Doughty’s new facility. Sheridan has begun to pour concrete for the foundation and steel for the new building has begun to arrive. Phase 1 of the project, which is the 185’ x 80’ East Bay, is scheduled for completion at the end of 2008.
